Dr. Lakangiting Caparanga Garcia is the series coordinator of Wikang Sarili, Abiva Publishing House’s newest series of textbooks for teaching Filipino in the basic education. The series includes eleven worktexts and teachers guides designed for kinder to grade 10.
Dr. Garcia is a recipient of the prestigious Francisco Balagtas Award from the Komisyon ng Wikang Filipino as a distinguished teacher, writer, director, speaker, and composer. He also received awards from Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature, PANDAYLIPI, Gawad ng Kabayan Newspaper, KAKAMPI, SSOT, and other award-giving bodies in the literary and academic fields. Minimalistang Florante at Laura, Mga Tanong sa Sagot, Monghita (translation), El Filibusterismo para sa Makabagong Mambabasa, Mata ng Diablo, Green Cupid Romance 1 and 2 are just some of the books that he wrote. Three of his novels in Filipino were published in the East Shimbun journal in Japan.
A seasoned trainer in the areas of Art of Teaching, Classroom Management, Language Teaching, and Teaching of Literature under the Center for Educational Measurement (CEM), Dr. Garcia has been sent to many parts of the country to conduct workshops and training for teachers and other professionals on topics about teaching, writing, research, speaking, and educational management.
Dr. Garcia holds the following graduate degrees: Master of Arts in Drama Education and Theater Arts and Doctor of Arts in Language and Literature. He is currently a professor of Language, Literature, Media, and Philippine Studies at De La Salle University, Manila. His books were part of the collections of the libraries in different parts of the world such as the Queens Library in New York, USA; Union Public Library in New Jersey, USA, San Francisco Public Library, San Francisco, USA; Hathi Trust Digital Library in Michigan, USA; Toronto Public Library in Canada, and Stockholms Stadsbibliotek, Sweden.
